Buckeyes fall at home to Michigan State 10-7

by Jason Lloyd on October 1, 2011

The Buckeyes managed just 178 yards of total offense and fell right back into a quarterback debate in their 10-7 loss today against Michigan State. A late touchdown with 10 seconds left in the game averted their first shutout since 1993.

Braxton Miller was 5 of 10 passing, but the offense was stagnant against the No. 1 ranked defense in the country. Joe Bauserman was inserted in the second half but didn't fare any better. Bauserman directed the late touchdown drive, culminating with Evan Spencer's 33-yard touchdown catch, but the Spartans recovered the ensuing onside kick to end the game.

Kirk Cousins' 33-yard touchdown pass to B.J. Cunningham on the Spartans' opening drive was the game's only other touchdown. The Spartans' Dan Conroy added a 50-yard field goal with a strong wind at his back early in the fourth quarter for what turned out to be the winning points.

Both Ohio State quarterbacks were under pressure all day. The Spartans defense recorded nine sacks and hammered the Bucks' offensive line, which struggled with blitz protection all afternoon.
